Growing Barley
Barley production is largely classified into three primary market segments:
- malting barley, which is used in brewing beer;
- feed barley, which is used in feeding livestock (e. g. cattle, sheep, swine, and poultry) as well as pets; and
- human food (such as pearled barley for soup mixes, etc.)
Barley production practices (e. g. planting date, plant population, weed control, fertilization, disease management, and harvesting) are summarized into an outline format to provide a general guideline for growers interested in barley production. Please refer to the publications section of this web site for guidelines on production practices.
